Sons & Guns 02/2016

In the last decades the traditional hunting became in Germany an industry with over 1 billion euros annual revenue. The hunting licence costs up to 10.000 euros and it takes only two week to get one. Every hunter has to pay for each killed animal from 300,- for a wild boar up to 5.000,- for a deer, but only the antlers are the money worth. It makes the domestic hunting to an elitist hobby and a status symbol for the upper crust usual with good connections in politics and economy. Hunting abroad gives back the good old colonialistic feeling of superiority. Stuffed trophies of crocodiles, lions, gorillas and even walruses from all over the world decorate german living rooms.
