Dear Friends, I’m starting a fundraising campaign in order to finally publish the “Nothing Personal - the back office of war” book with GOST Books in UK and Hartmann in Germany. I’m very excited about this opportunity to bring all the huge photographic investigation from the last 6 years, 5 continents and 15 countries out in the world in form of a photobook. The photobook business is not as lucrative, as the arms trade, but with your help I hope to be able to make the final step. I would really appreciate your support by pre-ordering a copy, prints or workshops or just sharing the information. “Let me take you behind the curtains of the global arms trade: The “back office” of war, ironically, is the complete opposite of a battlefield, a sort of an oversized playground for adults, well - stocked with wine, canapés and shiny weapons. Dead bodies here are mannequins or pixels on the screens of an enormous number of simulators. Bazookas and machine guns are plugged into flatscreens, and war action is staged in an artificial environment, in front of a tribune full of high ranked guests, ministers, heads of states, generals and traders.
I have been working on this project between 2016 and 2023 in 15 countries on 5 continents at 17 exclusive so called defence exhibitions.
Planned to be printed in September and officially released in Jan 2024, preorders will be shipped in December 2023. Approx. 180 pages, 220 x 275mm, co-published by GOST (UK) and Hartmann Books (GER).
*Final book design and measures could still slightly change.”

Every year in Germany around 760 millions of animals end up in slaughterhouse. My new photo project deals with
animals, who were lucky to escape their destiny and getting a second life.
I have been working on „Animals Escape Plan“ during the last year visiting Ferdinand, Halla, Felix, Hanni and other animals at six sanctuaries in Germany and Austria where they can live in peace. It will be published for the first time on friday on the pages of the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin accompanied by a thrilling text by Lara Fritzsche . Many thanks to Jakob Feigl who supported me all the way, so I didn’t lost the motivation during the difficult times. Back in February I Iost my Dad and since then it’s been a very hard time for me and my family. My father Vladimir Teryoshin worked for decades as set designer at the television channel 5 in Leningrad and later as freelance painter in Dortmund, Germany. He supported me a lot and in fact I even started photography making repros of his paintings. I’m endless thankful for your sincere support over the years, modelling for my very first photo ideas, making portfolios, honesty criticising my work, giving me tips and writing everytime on Skype, when I got more followers on Instagram behind the comma. I will never forget how we used to collect mushrooms and survived a lightning strike at our dacha in St Petersburg in the Nineties. *17.10.1949 - †03.02.2021 🖤 🕊

I feel extremely honored to receive the first prize in the contemporary issues category for one of the pictures from my „nothing personal - the back office of war“ series at World Press Photo 2020! Hopefully the issue of the global arms trade will get some more publicity. Congrats to Yasuyoshi Chiba for the photo of the year and all the finalists! Many thanks to everyone who supported me during the last years and helped to push the project forward. “Self Isolated Cloud”
Happy to see on of my Covid Diaries pictures shot out of my window some weeks ago between guitar and pancakes on the cover of @taz.die_tageszeitung special Easter photography issue full of great pictures by different photographers documenting the corona crisis and self isolation..
„Das Bild entstand mittags an einem der ersten Corona-Sonntage bei mir zu Hause in Berlin, als ich gerade die Gitarre beiseitelegte und zum Pfannkuchenbraten übergehen wollte. Da fiel mir plötzlich eine selbstisolierte Wolke am Himmel auf, die einer Wolkenversammlung in ausreichendem Sicherheitsabstand folgte. Gleich ist sie über dem Schornstein!, dachte ich mir. Dann rannte ich so schnell, wie ich konnte, in mein Zimmer nebenan und schnappte mir meine Kamera, die dank der „Covid Chronicles“, an denen ich in letzter Zeit arbeite, immer griffbereit ist, und machte ein paar Bilder. Im nächsten Moment war die Wolke wieder weg. Mit einem guten Fotografengewissen für den Rest des Tages konnte ich zum Pfannkuchenbraten übergehen.“

IDEX is the biggest defense exhibition and conference in the Middle East, and one of the biggest arms trade-fairs in the world. No official attendance figures are released, but according to UAE state media the event drew 1,200 global defence specialists, 1,300 exhibitors and more than 105,000 visitors. Attendees include defense ministers, military chiefs of staff and key government decision-makers, who interact in conference halls, social events and back-office meetings. War is staged in an artificial environment where mannequins and screen images take the place of real people, and with outdoor demonstrations and daily choreographed battle displays on water. "

Today’s SZ Magazin‘s cover story “Forever Punk” written by Roland Schulz about a small German punk band “Bluttat”

from the 80ies. They became legends for
decades in Colombia, generations grew up with their songs. When they heard about it, for the first time two years ago they reunited to play at a punk festival in Medellin even, thought they have broken up with Bluttat / Punk in 1986 🤟🍻🇨🇴

In september I participated at the Joop Swart Master Class runnning by World Press Photo and spent a week in Amsterdam and really happy to met great colleagues there. The story I produced for the Masterclass in Moscow and St.Petersburg is called "I've never been to Russia" is now online on the World Press Photo blog with an interview!

"Ahoi from Zhuhai - postcards from China's most liveable city" today on It's Nice That
"Nikita found himself in the city – one that is little known outside of China – when visiting to document the China Airshow 2018 as part of his ongoing personal work Nothing Personal. Having not heard of Zhuhai before visiting, he found himself somewhat lost, unable to speak with locals, and so used his camera to explore the area. “Unfortunately I only had a visa for one week, the duration of the trade fair, so I tried to take pictures of the everyday life between the fair visits,” he tells us.
The resulting pictures are true to Nikita’s signature style, which we’ve long been fans of. Tights crops, high-flash and full colour produce unexpected compositions that skew the world and hint at a bigger picture. They, in turn, reflect the whirlwind that was the photographer’s experience of the area."

Postcards from the chinese city of Zhuhai. Zhuhai is located in the Pearl River Delta is also one of China's premier tourist destinations, being called the Chinese Riviera. It became a city in 1979. According to a report released in 2014 by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhuhai is the most livable city in China.

"Grandmas strike back" - Last month during my trip to South Africa I got a hint from Airbnb to take part at the box training in a very special box club - the boxing grannies. The training takes place at the a-team gym two times a week in Cosmo City, a township next to Johannesburg. The oldest gogo - Zulu for grandma - ist 85 years old and super fit. After a couple of minutes I saw that I just can't keep up with the grannies and took out my camera. You will find some of the pictures this week in Zeit Magazin photo Edition. Many thanks to coach Claude Maphosa, the A-team and super cool grannies!! 🥊

Als BVB Fan ist mir diese Reportage besonders schwer gefallen. (Fast) Ein Jahr Königsblau vor der Linse inklusive der vier zu vier Niederlage Dortmunds gegen Schalke im November. Dickes Kompliment geht an den Kollegen Tobias Ahrens! Für sein sehr lesenswertes Titelgeschichtendebüt begleitete er in weiser Voraussicht Domenico Tedesco bereits während seiner Zeit bei Erzgebirge Aue und skizzierte akribisch die Metamorphosen und den rassanten Aufstieg eines fußballbesessenen Perfektionisten. Fetten Dank an Kai Senf Senf und Jens Kuiper !

"Jagd Fieber - Die gnadenlose Hatz nach Talenten". Für die aktuelle 11Freunde durfte ich mich gemeinsam mit dem Kollegen Stephan Reich in Zuzenhausen, Dessau, Barsinghausen Berlin und Leipzig umschauen und ein Bild von den beunruhigenden Entwicklungen im deutschen Jugendfußball machen. Talent, professionelle Ausrüster und Berater sind keine Garantie für eine Karriere. Während 10-Jährige wie ihre erwachsenen Prototype Autogramme verteilen und 15-Jährige ihre gewohnte Umgebung in der Hoffnung auf Internatplätze, oder schon gegen saftige Ablösen verlassen müssen, wird der Traum von einer Profikarriere nur den wenigsten Fällen wahr. Die meisten von ihnen werden am Ende froh sein können, einen Schulabschluss haben, nach dem sie von der Albtraumfabrik ausgespuckt worden sind. "Out of control" portraits of Tobias L. For the current SZ Magazin. Tobias has been sent by the youth welfare service to Romania when he was a little boy. Now back in Germany without graduation he has troubles with German language, getting a job or any education. There are up to 800 hard educable children in Germany have been sent to other countries and cultures as the last chance for getting controlled.

Anfang der Woche durfte ich mich für die aktuelle Ausgabe der Zeit in der zweitgrößten Stadt Brandenburgs Cottbus, auch bekannt als Chóśebuz (niedersorbisch für "schön hier") umschauen. Dabei wurde ich sogar vom dortigen Bürgermeister Holger Kelch empfangen. Besten Dank an Jutta Schein für den tollen Trip!

Im Karneval fängt das Leben an, im Karneval hört es auf.
"Die Freiheit des Narren" ist eine Geschichte über Horst Schwiperich aus Longerich und seine Liebe zum Kölner Karneval, welche der Autor Stefan Willeke zu ergründen versucht. Es ist keine lustige, aber dafür eine sehr intime, tragische und urkomische Geschichte zugleich – gespickt mit irrsinnigen Fakten zu den Blauen Funken, Preislisten für Karnevalsuniformen, und vielen weiteren spannenden Details.
Auf dem Cover sieht man Horst in Uniform in der Morgendämmerung am Ufer eines privaten Angelgewässers in Köln Longerich stehen, wo er einst seine Todesängste bezwang. Ausgelöst wurden sie von einem Medikament, welches er während einer Operation im Krankenhaus verabreicht bekam. Horst glaubt nicht an Psychotherapie und wollte selbst damit fertig werden. So verkroch er sich in sein Zelt, kappte den Kontakt zur Außenwelt und harrte drei Tage und Nächte in völliger Isolation am Ufer aus, bis er schließlich den Frohsinn wiederfand. Ich durfte Horst während der Karnevalszeit fotografisch begleiten. Herzlichen Dank an Milena Carstens, Stefan Willeke und natürlich Horst Schwiperich, dass er trotz seines mit 12 Stunden Schichten und unzähligen Karnevalsauftritten prallgefüllten Terminkalenders doch noch etwas Zeit für uns fand! Funken Alaaf!

Als ich vor einigen Wochen die Einladung zur Preisverleihung der Rückblende 2017 mit meinem Bild vom CDU Bundesparteitag in den Händen hielt, kippte ich fast aus den Schuhen. Nun stand ich vorgestern tatsächlich auf der Shortlist des deutschen Preises für politische Fotografie. Leider hat es für den ersten Platz nicht gereicht. Glückwunsch an den diesjährigen Gewinner Andreas Herzau! Die ältesten Fußballfans der Republik auf ihren Auswärtsreisen in der aktuellen 11Freunde. Die meisten von ihnen sind lebende Legenden und absolute Unikate und genießen nicht umsonst größten Respekt in der Fanszene. Selbst die radikalsten Ultras horchen auf und stehen still, wenn zB die verrauchte Stimme von Walli im Mönchengladbacher Sonderzug für Ordnung sorgt.

Endlich Drin. Für die neue Cicero habe ich vor ein paar Wochen den jungen, aufstrebenden und frisch in den Bundestag gewählten FDP Politiker Dr. Marcel Klinge bei seiner Ankunft in Berlin einen Tag lang begleiten dürfen.
17.11.2017 So sieht es also im angesagtesten Kaff Deutschlands aus: Für die aktuelle Neon durfte ich mich Anfang Oktober im youtub'schen Kliemannsland (irgendwo zwischen Hamburg und Bremen) ausgerechnet am Tag des Sturms Xavier umschauen. Dank an Frauke Schnoor für den tollen Auftrag und Heinrich Holtgreve fürs Obdach in Hamburg!

"(...) Sie haben die Rechnung ohne Nikita Teryoshin gemacht. Wer will ihm, dem Fotografen, vorschreiben, welche Bilder hier produziert werden? Teryoshin hat eine diebische Freude an der medialen Selbstinszenierung des Politischen. Man kann sie auch unterlaufen.

Das Foto stammt von Nikita Teryoshin, der seit Jahren die Methoden moderner Tierzucht und Massentierhaltung dokumentiert, dabei aber auf die üblichen Schockbilder verzichtet."
Die gläserne Kuh wurde von HORIZONT.net u.a. neben Spiegel und Brand Eins zu einem der besten Cover des Monats Juli gewählt.
